Prism glasses in Paris well ahead their time

This picture, taken by Trendycrew in Paris in 2009, is of a pair of Prism glasses, possibly the Rio in crystal grey? Prism goes from strength to strength after it pioneered selling high-end glasses purely as accessories and, two years on, it really was ahead of its time. It's since launched a strong sunglass collection and now, wait for it, a top-notch swimwear collection.

Theophabet: spectacles, to the letter

Belgian eyewear design house Theo releases Theophabet, a limited edition frame featuring every letter of the alphabet. Twice. Only O is missing in the material of the frame, but then I guess there are two big ones where the lenses go. 75 pairs are available. Made from stainless steel, these glasses are perfect for authors, typographers, librarians, crossword compilers, journalists or anyone learning their ABC (if you're happy having the alphabet on your face!)

I have a pair of RVS by V glasses and I'm not exaggerating if I say that the matt acetate finish is second to none; a delight to touch. Here RVS releases two new styles, Sugar and Sweet, both available in suitably candied colours, temples and fronts can be combined to the customer's choice.

Who makes Heston Blumenthal's new glasses as featured in British Airways' Great Britons campaign?

Who makes Heston Blumenthal's new black glasses as featured in British Airways' Great Britons campaign? Kirk Originals, that's who
Kirk Originals Kinetic Java in aubergine
Well Mr Headline Writer, that would be Kirk Originals. Michelin-starred chef Heston Blumenthal – pictured above with Brit artist Tracey Emin and actor-director Richard E Grant (piss artist Withnail)  – and his new spectacles have featured on this domain before. Blumenthal, in his good-but-perhaps-not-as-good-as-these-new-ones, bespoked Bugatti frames, and the Kinetic collection from Kirk Originals. Specificaly, the Kinetic Java, I think, in aubergine.

The best thing about this great frame, of course, is that the temples incorporate lenticular prints that change with movement. Fun stuff and only fully appreciated with some moving images, below. More Kirks posts here...

Invest in Erlik Eyewear and get more innovative glasses for your money

A prototype of the Erlik glasses on offer

Clever-hinged Canadian sunglass outfit Erlik is expanding into eye glasses in a rather exciting way. The Montreal-based designer, featured on EWG a while back for its ridiculously clever hinge, has been approved by Kickstarter.com, a "financing 2.0" platform for creative projects, to raise money for an ophthalmic collection.

Watch the video below describing the product, and if you're interested why not invest? More than 50 people have backed the project so far, raising half the money required before the 13 June 2011 deadline. Visit Erlik's page on Kickstarter to join in...

TD Tom Davies launches six limited edition 1950s glasses for women
British bespoke eyewear designer TD Tom Davies has launched six 1950s-style special edition glasses, limited to 50 pieces each. Made from high-quality acetate, they feature Swarovski crystals in the browline or temples.

Tom Davies himself explains:  "“I have been doing private couture commissions incorporating precious stones and the recent demand for these has inspired me to do this first limited edition with Swarovski crystals. For customers wanting a truly exquisite finish, we can fit the frame with real certified diamonds. The results are literally dazzling."
