Ksubi 'lead-window' sunglasses - as worn by Aureta

Aureta's Blog includes a lot of good eyewear - here is just a taster: a pair of Ksubi "lead-window" (my description from a post one year ago) sunglasses in black and crystal. Rather a brilliant choice to go with her Chanel jacket...

The sunnies are actually called Skeleton and also come in black and tortoiseshell and fuchsia and crystal.

Thierry Lasry sunglasses on a cold sunny Soho morning

I rudely failed to ask this super-stylish sunglass wearer's name this morning, too busily admiring her shades in my bumbling "Can-I-take-a-picture-of-you-in-your-sunglasses-for-my-blog?" way. Suffice to say, these shades are great: Thierry Lasry's sunglasses of the highest order. I think they're Abusy 903 like these below, similar to the Thierry Lasry sunglasses featuring 1980s vintage acetates featured here in October. Yum.

Ørgreen and Arne Jacobsen special edition Swan chairs and frames

At last month's London Design Festival, Danish eyewear designers Ørgreen Optics joined forces with furniture specialists the Republic of Fritz Hansen to produce a series of Arne Jacobsen Swan chairs featuring the same Copenhagen skyline design as a special edition of eyewear by Ørgreen.

The chairs and eyewear collaboration, pictured here at the EDC London showroom, referred to as the Skyline Edition, marks a new addition to a series of creative projects in the Ørgreen "Playground".

Lunettes Kollektion - simple glasses with a simple name

Clearly it takes a brand with some quality product to have the nerve to call itself a Franco-German translation of "Glasses Collection" and still get taken seriously.

These frames look terrific, but don't just take my word for it (although my word does usually suffice).

The big, annual eyewear exhibition in Japan (IOFT) has just given Lunettes Kollektion the men's frame of the year award.

Lunettes started four years ago in Berlin and has two stores that have specialised in decent vintage stock.

The Lunettes Kollektion however is its own range of vintage-inspired eyewear.




All frames - including "Artsy-Fartsy" which won the award - are produced by small Austrian and Italian manufacturers and although I have not yet held a pair my hands (the only true test of good eyewear), these look top-notch.

Winning an award in Japan is only going to help Lunettes Kollektion's reputation.

I look forward to seeing a pair...

Lindberg 2010 glasses: titanium, acetate and no frames at all

One of the first signs of a good optician is that they stock Lindberg, a Danish framemaker renowned for its top-drawer, lightweight, minimal eyewear with no screws in the hinge.

We begin with Lindberg Strip (model 9531), which features a very feminine, mild "granddad" shape. Next an Acetanium (model 1232) with a terrific tortoiseshell-like colour and finally...

...We don't feature many rimless frames on Eye Wear Glasses, but there is always an exception (model 98).

Dzmitry Samal's back but this time he's made some glasses...

So I admit to being a little confused as to what's real and what's still in the design stage, because these all look pretty real to me. But they're not.

I featured Dzmitry Samal back in March when he presented some Louis Vuitton concept glasses. Then, as now, he demonstrates his hugely original approach to sunglass creation with not one but three supremely exciting designs...

Lotho handmade acetate sunglasses - you know Yuwano...

Lotho sunglasses are designed in Paris, handmade in Japan. I'm on a bit of role of being introduced to new names and Lotho is my latest happy find.

A young brand, Lotho has some great takes on classic styles such as (top down) Henry, Allie and Aroun (left).

But with this limited edition Yuwano, Lotho's designer, Coco, demonstrates an ability to create something bold and directional, bringing contrasting elements together to dramatic effect.

Cool glasses don't get much bigger than these. Genius hinge No.2 from Mykita is included, twice, in these Gary spectacles.

Top Marcs: the Harbour Island collection from Robert Marc

To create something truly brilliant, there has to be attention to detail. Glasses are a prime example. New York based Robert Marc Eyewear continues to attend to the detail and the new Harbour Collection is typical of his approach.

I've raved a little about Robert Marc before, particularly about the hinges, but the other stand-out detail about  his frames is the material. He uses acetate extremely well - sometimes simple, sometimes complex - and the above demonstrates both extremes.

It was the RM629's finish (top) that caught my eye, but its the RM632 and RM250 in the second picture  that steals the show. In the temple, incorporates hand-woven raffia into the crystal finish - hence the limited numbers... great work, all inspired by Harbour Island in the Bahamas.

Oliver Goldsmith glasses from the 1960s to be re-launched this month

One of the biggest global names in eyewear, Oliver Goldsmith, will be launching retro models of his original glasses designs from the 1960s and 1970s by the end of April, Eye Wear Glasses can reveal.

To begin with they will be available only from David Clulow's Ledbury Road branch in Notting Hill.

Original retro sunglasses from Oliver Goldsmith were launched back in 2005 but, until now, Oliver Goldsmith retro glasses designs have only been available in Japan and the Far East, where the spectacles and brand, described below by A Oliver Goldsmith in a film for the Victoria & Albert Museum, are hugely popular.

These frames pictured are just a fraction of the 2009-10 collection. Exactly which models will be available in the West remains to be seen. All designs are exact copies of original designs, handmade in Japan from top quality acetate. Hover over the pictures above for model names, I've shown the black ones to highlight the great shapes but also shown some of the colours available.
