Re-released Manhattan sunglasses mark 50th anniversary of Breakfast at Tiffany's

As revealed here in January, Oliver Goldsmith's Manhattan sunglasses were to be re-released to mark the 50th anniversary of Breakfast at Tiffany's.  Audrey Hepburn's Holly Golightly wears the shades in the 1961 film and Oliver Goldsmith has now launched an exact replica of the frame.

What's more OG has made it available in five colourways: the classic dark tortoiseshell with green lens (below), as worn in the film above, as well as black/caramel split (next down), dark wood, grape and ink.

And why not. Or rather Y-Not (bottom) another OG sunglass made available this summer - as worn by Lady Gaga.  Manhattan and Y-Not are available from the OG boutique in London or in the best opticians around the world (see stockists here).

The Book of Eli: glasses and sunglasses identified...

For every film where I don't know the leading role's eyewear, there's another where I do. These are Face à Face glasses called Woody. The film in question is The Book of Eli, and these are worn by Gary Oldman... note the classic colour on the inside of the frame, and the slightly exaggerated corners.

And if you want to know what Denzil Washington (strictly the lead) is wearing in the Eli film, they are Oakley Inmate sunglasses...

Who makes Colin Firth's glasses in A Single Man?

All I know is that Colin Firth's glasses in Tom Ford's A Single Man, are not Tom Ford Eyewear. Sunglasses Onstage suggests they're mid-20th-century vintage and I'd agree as the closest I've seen to these were in the top-notch quality vintage drawers at the Eye Company in Soho, London. It certainly provides spectacles for TV and film, so possibly?

Who makes Colin Firth's glasses in A Single Man? Barton Perreira?
But then Barton Perreira do something extremely similar with the Preston (right).

When I see the film, I will be the one disappointed at the end. I'll hang around to read all the credits, only to find the "Eyewear: " line non-existent. Seen it already? Let  me know if you know more.

UPDATE 28 Dec 2010

Well we got there in the end folks: the answer is a pair of Nalco #44 vintage 1960s frames like these right.

If you're dead quick you can buy them on eBay here.

I actually got round to watching the film a month ago and have been searching for a bow-tie-shaped rivet detail on a temple ever since. But today the eBay seller left a comment below and solved 2010's Eye Wear Glasses mystery... These are definitely them!

SJP wears Jee Vice sunglasses in SATC2 too

Now Sex and the City 2 is not high up my list of must-see movies: a) because most sequels suck, b) because they're still filming it, and c) while I'm fully in touch with my feminine side, SATC2 is way too girlie for me.

That said, I hear tell that the clothing and accessories are of note.

I've felt the need to explain this for three reasons: a) when embarking on a glasses blog I did not envisage the celeb angle would be quite so unavoidable; b) I have already featured a SATC2 sunglasses post just t'other week, namely "SJP" wearing Mykita and Bernard Willhelm's Flash sunglasses, and I don't want people thinking this is a fansite; and c) I found a brand that hitherto I knew very little about, Jee Vice.

The very little I did know was that a designer formerly of sports eyewear brand Arnette now designed something less sporty and more cool - fashion cool, not surf cool.

That designer, I now know, Philippe Vergez, set up Jee Vice in 2003 and I was amazed that I didn't know more.

Look at the Jee Vice website to have a browse of the wide variety of great designs (I particularly like Dyslexia) or have a look right here at SJP and KC wearing Heated Orange Jubilee and Red Hot Deep Purple.

Sarah Jessica Parker wears Mykita & Bernhard Willhelm sunglasses in Sex and the City 2 movie

Sarah Jessica Parker wear Mykita sunglasses in Sex and the City 2 movieYes, perhaps the hottest pair of sunglasses for 2010 (as featured here in an early Mykita eyewear sunglasses post) could well be the Flash aviators by Mykita and Bernard Willhelm.

This could have happened anyway but, now SJP is wearing them in one of the early scenes to be shot of the Sex and the City movie sequel, it's looking a bit of a certainty...

Durr, get it. Thanks to Graz for helping me out.

I didn't realise the picture mike_1992 posted was from the movie The Hangover.

Lots of people have blogged this already. In May. Before I really got going. Playing catch-up!
