A bridge too far? Theo by James

A bridge too far? Theo by James - James 3 and 4

A bridge too far? Theo by James - James 4

A bridge too far? Theo by James - James 3
Here are some specs you're unlikely to forget. Theo has collaborated with James Van Vossel to create this unique design, a single-wire rimless frame with a memorable looping bridge. A bridge too far? No - Theo has always created some frames that stand out and long may it continue.

We rarely feature rimless so it's a pleasure to find a pair which include such statement. Referring back to yesterday's Cazal post, are these maximal minimalism?

Theo by James is available in six colours. Square-lensed models are James 3 while round ones are James 4.

Lindberg's horn and titanium frame wins top tech prize at Silmo

Lindberg Horn 1801 glasses

Lindberg Horn 1802 glasses

Lindberg Horn 1803 glasses

Lindberg has a strong history of innovation so it's great to see it get the recognition it deserves with a Silmo d'Or in Paris. I had a good look at these Horn glasses in Paris and can confirm that the way the horn front fixes to the titanium sides is indeed clever stuff. And as these images testify, the join is far from clumsy. From the top: Lindberg 1801, 1802 and 1803.

Morgenthal Frederics aviators for L.A.M.B. Fall 2011 runway

Morgenthal Frederics Corsair aviators for L.A.M.B. Fall 2011 runway

The L.A.M.B. Fall 2011 collection, by another singer-turned-designer Gwen Stefani,  at New York Fashion Week featured none other than Manhattan's premier eyewear brand Morgenthal Frederics on the catwalk.

Specifically, the Corsair aviator, right and below.

A little more digging around and I'm mightily impressed with Morgenthal Frederics - it should have been on these webpages sooner.

It chooses where to make its eyewear wisely: Japanese titanium, German buffalo horn and hand-crafted French acetates. All top notch design and expertly crafted.

Right and below, Corsair, is made of titanium, but others below are buffalo horn and acetate. All rather lovely I'm sure you'll agree.

Leisure Society luxury eyewear - the best keeps getting better

When I ventured over to Paris, one of the most interesting collections I came across was a new one: Leisure Society by Shane Baum.

Shane is the man behind many an amazing pair of glasses. Not only has he developed a cutting-edge eye fashion business, working making eyewear for brands such as Paul Frank and Modern Amusement, but he's also worked in conjunction with some of the biggest names in fashion, including Louis Vuitton.

It was particularly impressed to find that Shane had worked on the "Bling Bindi" shades that featured here back when we started.

Shane knows good stuff when he sees it so when I heard the Leisure Society was a top-notch luxury collection  I knew I would not be disappointed.

Believe me, these frames are incredible.

They're some of the coolest, most up-to-the-second designs around, and they are beautifully made. Titanium frame plated with 12-18 and 24-carat gold with detail that you need a magnifying glass to truly appreciate, the Leisure Society is only available in some of the best opticians in the world...

Lindberg 2010 glasses: titanium, acetate and no frames at all

One of the first signs of a good optician is that they stock Lindberg, a Danish framemaker renowned for its top-drawer, lightweight, minimal eyewear with no screws in the hinge.

We begin with Lindberg Strip (model 9531), which features a very feminine, mild "granddad" shape. Next an Acetanium (model 1232) with a terrific tortoiseshell-like colour and finally...

...We don't feature many rimless frames on Eye Wear Glasses, but there is always an exception (model 98).

Remember those screwless, jointless, hingeless glasses that weigh 2.2g that I raved about earlier this year? Well in what's shaping up to be an impromptu tour of design-refined Scandinavia, we touch down in Iceland with Reykjavik Eyes. As before, they've made a video too...

Anne et Valentin Factory Six lunettes

It takes 21 days to create a pair of Anne et Valentin handmade glasses, and judging by these pictures, you can tell.

Anne et Valentin began in Toulouse in 1981 and I'm rather pleased it did. Its collection is one of the broadest and best around. Above are just a few the acetates and if you thought that was all A&V does, think again...
